Happiness and Heart Disease: Fact #9

No one ever likes to hear they're sick. After the initial shock of learning that something's wrong the bigger battle begins. No matter the issue, you either fight to heal or accept what may not change, and then you have to learn to live with it. This can be a hard pill to swallow. The probability of becoming depressed is high and, according to a recent Loyola University Medical Center study, the reverse can also happen: "forty to 60 percent of heart disease patients suffer clinical depression and 30 to 50 percent of patients who suffer clinical depression are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease."

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to pay extra attention to your health, make sure to care for your mental health as well. If you find yourself needing to pay extra attention to your mental health, take extra care of your heart too.
