100th Post!
Yay for 100!!
Well, if you read our last post you know all about my fabulous birthday present- my sweet bike! Today, I took it for a test drive on the Capital Crescent Trail. The trail is awesome! I took my bike on the Metro three stops into town and then ride through the fabulous little shopping area in Bethesda to the trail. It's so picturesque once you're on the trail! There's little historic markers along the way as well, which you know I enjoyed! It's so lush and green with spectacular views of parks, streams, wealthy people's homes, the Potomac River, and then you end up in Georgetown at the waterfront park! It's seven miles from Bethesda to Georgetown. I took a book and packed a lunch thinking I would take a break when I got to the waterfront, eat my pb & j and read a little. Then I remembered I was right in front of the movie theater and there are some girly movies I want to see. So I parked my bike in front of the theater and popped in to see what was playing. I was just in time to see "Management" with Jennifer Aniston! Ryan would have hated it but I thought it was pretty good and a great way to spend a chilly afternoon and since I brought my lunch, I just ate it in the movie! After the movie, I thought I would just continue through Georgetown about a mile or two to the Metro and ride back home, but then I thought, no! I'm gonna go for it! So, I pedaled seven miles back to Bethesda! It took about an hour to get back! I was tired, it was a mild incline, and it was chillier than when I left, but it felt soooooo good to push myself! I really wanted to get Haagen Dazs when I got back to Bethesda as a reward for my hard work, but I talked myself out of it! It would have blown my whole workout! So, I waited til I got home to make a chocolate Weight Watchers smoothie with cherries in it. Man I love those smoothies! It was a way better for me reward! My bike had it's inaugural ride and has the dirt splatters to prove it! Here are some pictures from my adventure today:

Sweet New Stuff!
Tuesday is my 27th birthday and I'm celebrating with some sweet new stuff!! First new thing:
My new do!
I had to go short this summer! Last summer was ridiculous trying to manage my wavy hair in the crazy swampy humidity that takes over DC!
The next sweet new thing is the best thing! My birthday gift from Ryan!! I've been begging for this for years!! My sweet new bike!
It's cute and comfy like a beach cruiser and good for both streets and trails!!
And, yes, ADPi's, it's a Diamond!! So I know it will treat me well!!
Ryan is so awesome for getting me such a great gift!! He also set the code on my lock, attached the bell, attached the kick stand, an took pictures of me in different helmets at the store so I could make sure I got the cutest one!
I am so excited to get to trail riding!! Hopefully he'll have a bike by next weekend so we can ride to a good fishing spot, have a nice Memorial Day picnic, and he can catch some fish while I pretend to fish and read a book.

Europe in DC
Ryan and I got to go to Europe this weekend without even leaving DC! Saturday was the 3rd Annual European Union Open House! We hopped on a charter bus from a metro station and had the opportunity to stop at Spain, Malta, Germany, France and Sweden for free. We decided our first stop had to be Germany!! What a good choice we made! The German Embassy is huge! It's on a beautifully landscaped hillside in Georgetown. As we entered we got a cup of sparkling water, picked up some tourism and Luftansa stuff, and checked out the latest in Playmobil. Inside the Embassy, we were able to visit with all the German services in the area. Back outside was the best part: we got to see the German Ambassador to the U.S. and get German food and beverages! Ryan started off right with a bratwurst and beer, and I started with a pretzel. Around the corner from that area we were able to listen to a German folk band and try free samples of doner (Turkish transplant to Germany very much like a gyro), curry, multiple soups including potato soup and chilled cherry soup (yum!), deli meat with real German mustard, wine, beer, and chocolate covered hazelnuts! It was heaven! I think Ryan's really looking forward to going to Germany now!
We decided to skip France and head to Sweden! Their Embassy is also in a beautiful location: right on the bank of the Potomac in Georgetown! Walking up to the Swedish embassy, you know you're in for a unique experience. The building is super modern and a Swedish jazz duo was playing at the entryway. Just inside the door, waterfalls trickle down each side of the wall. Then, as you make your way, you feel like you've walking into the "best of Ikea"! It really looked so neat and efficient inside! They had a few displays on green technology which just proved how much more efficient they are becoming over in Europe. They had really yummy ginger cookies, gummy candies and chocolate to sample! The best part though, was the view from the roof! The entire top of the building is an open roof deck with breathtaking views of the Potomac, Roosevelt Island, the Kennedy Center, and Georgetown! Amazing!
We spent the rest of our day watching the new Star trek movie, having dinner at Pizza Paradiso (best pizza in the area!), and running errands! What a productive and culturally educational day!

Another Reason to Love DC!
Today, after an awesome day at work (I officially survived my first academic year as a Greek Advisor!!), I was on my way to meet the ADPi Alumni at Old Glory in Georgetown for happy hour and I saw Barack and Michelle Obama!! I was walking through Foggy Bottom and spotted some unusual traffic coming around the roundabout... the Presidential motorcade! So, I stopped, just in case, and their limo paused right in front of me! There was only one lane of traffic between me and the limo! I looked in the window and they both looked right at me and smiled! I waved and they waved back!
Awesome!
