Finally spoke with the relocation people
Well, Ryan finally spoke with the relocation people on Friday and realized this is real! We got the ok to travel and start making plans. We are flying out Tuesday to check out some apartments. We've made a huge list and have been calling places to see if they have any units open for move-in by mid-March. Calling is actually helping to narrow the list. We've been looking for places that are spacious (we have overstuffed sofas), near the Metro (I won't have a car yet and this will make it easy for both of us to get to work), with A/C (it will be humid soon), with a gym (I've become acclimated to working out at 5am before work), with a washer and dryer in the apartment (it's hard enough to lug our laundry down the stairs), and preferably a pool (we are from California). Hopefully, this week will be fruitful and we hope to be able to do some paperwork before we leave. This week we discussed the possibility of buying a home within a couple of months as we learn more about the area. Ryan's company will actually help us find a home if we take advantage of their offer within 6 months. We would be able to avoid realtor fees and all that hooplah by doing so. With the cost of rent out there it just might be worth it to pay a mortgage instead!!
Wish us luck on our apartment search! We'll let you know if we are successful!

No New News
Ryan officially accepted his offer on Saturday, but we haven't heard much else since then. We received a packet about our relocation coverage (which is pretty much everything but my plane ticket!) but haven't actually spoke to a human regarding our move. We've been making a long list of apartments online which is actually a challenge because we are looking for something within walking distance of the metro, with some nice amenities, in a safe area, yet affordable... Hopefully we'll hear something soon because I would hate to feel rushed to get Ryan out there in a reasonable amount of time and to find a nice place. We'd prefer to get into something before he begins work. I'll keep you up to date!

It's Official
Big news! Ryan was given and offer on Friday and he accepted it officially yesterday morning! It's done... we're moving to DC! Ahhh!
When we initially learned of this potential move I kept telling myself I wouldn't go with him unless he proposed. My stubborn side kept trying to convince me this wasn't the way I wanted things to go; I've always wanted to do things the "right" way and ultimately, be better at relationships than my parents. Well, I guess I blew that when I let Ryan move in with me after he graduated from CSUSB! But the marriage thing I just couldn't let go of. After talking through this situation with a lot of wonderful people, I have realized that the important thing is not the marriage because a good marriage shouldn't really change a good relationship. The important thing is our relationship and I'm not going to sacrifice an amazing relationship to do things "right". So, for now, I am accepting that this is what our relationship is and part of building our relationship is helping Ryan get all of his ducks in a row understanding that marriage will come when the time is right for us.
We're really starting to feel excited about this move! It's an amazing opportunity for Ryan's career- seriously, we're set for life! He feels like he has "made it" and would be comfortable in this position for the rest of his working days, but we know Ryan, and we know this won't be where he settles, he's too freakin' good at his job! This move also brings about some amazing opportunities for my career; I might actually be able to land a job where I get to use my Master's degree!
We'll probably head out to DC during the latter half of this week to check out apartments. We've been creating a list online and think we might actually be able to find a pretty sweet place!
Anyone want to come to DC with us???

Happy Valentine's Day
Happy Valentine's Day friends and family!! I thought it'd be a good day and good idea to start a blog all about Ryan and me and the adventures we are experiencing. As you know, we are anticipating a huge life change right now: a possible move to Washington, DC! I'll be using this blog to keep you up to date with everything going on in our lives. I've been blogging on myspace for a few years, but not everyone has a myspace, so this is convenient for all of our friends and family. Being able to blog and get comments from you really helped me get through the time I spent in Philadelphia, so hopefully this will serve the same purpose.
So far, Ryan has been told they want him for the position in DC and is waiting to hear about salary. If the money's right, we'll take it. This will be an amazing opportunity for his career and for us! I'll keep you posted with all the news!
